Finely crafted interiors, refined materials and harmonious expressions of texture, volume, colour and light characterised the outstanding projects recognised in Australian House & Garden’s  Top 50 Rooms for 2019.

For 21 consecutive years, Top 50 Rooms has celebrated the extraordinary depth of Australia’s design talent. The prestigious annual award honours the best examples of residential architecture and interior design, showcasing some of the most spectacular rooms in Australia. It commends creativity, innovation and expertise in design, and this year’s entries are to be applauded.

In 2019, more than 100 rooms from around the country were entered in the Australian House & Garden Top 50 Rooms competition, from a charming Mediterranean-inspired kitchen with warm timber cabinetry to a magical outdoor room that uses mirrors to create the illusion of a never-ending green oasis. Also on display are beautiful architecture, striking materials and innovative use of colour, reflecting the lifestyle aspirations of Australians and the designers’ considered responses.

“The calibre of winners at this year’s awards represents some of the brightest talents in Australia’s design industry,” says Australian House & Garden editor, Tanya Buchanan.

“The jury recognised new directions in interior design in these projects, including the clever use of raw materials, a love of simplicity and restrained approach to design. We are truly honoured to showcase the very best rooms in Australia.”

Alongside Tanya, this year’s impressive judging panel included King Living global marketing manager Harry Bolanakis; Kirsten Stanisich and Jonathan Richards, directors of Richards Stanisich; founder of Garden Life, Richard Unsworth; founder of Grandiflora Saskia Havekes; and Kate Nixon, Australian House & Garden’s interiors & houses editor.

The Top 50 Rooms Awards will be announced at a lunch at Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel on October 17. The winners and all of the Top 50 Rooms are featured in the November issue of Australian House & Garden – on sale October 21.
